NFL's old unis are choice
11 Nov 2009 | 2:21 pmNavy blue and mustard?Yellow and brown striped socks?Powder blue with red?Candy stripes?Yes, all of the above color combinations have been seen your TV this season. And there's certainly been plenty of talk about the NFL's retro uniforms since.Don Banks of SI.com, for one, has been slamming them. Too much, he says. Too often. Other writers say the same, particularly about the New York Jets' old Titans unis. What's the big deal? Why are these people so worried about "throwing back"? Bad memories? Afraid of being labelled uncool? What gives?I love these old uniforms. Everything about them. The… -
Bears could maul the Cards' secondary
5 Nov 2009 | 3:13 pmThe Chicago Bears have some offensive firepower but it's not threatened anyone to this point. They need to start threatening.Quarterback Jay Cutler can make the throws - we've all seen it. He can squeeze it between hands on a slant, or send a rocket to the line on an out pattern. On a hitch route, Cutler blasts the ball into the stomach before the receiver completes his turn. This guy has Dan Marino-like potential. We've also admired his deep ball - it's very, very deep. Cutler's longer passers are made for speedsters like Devin Hester and Johnny Knox. But there's just not enough of them for… -
Joanna Krupa lays her bets
31 Oct 2009 | 3:48 pmSupermodel Joanna Krupa likes her home town Chicago Bears this week. No surprise there. I don't think anyone has the Browns, do they? Maybe Drew Carey. She also likes the Pack against the Vikes, she told the NFL Network. Really? Not so sure about that Joanna. Brett Favre will be on a mission Sunday - I don't care what the defense brings. Is anyone throwing the mid-range sideline laser better than Favre right now? -
The Express, he's fast
29 Oct 2009 | 6:13 pmWatched The Express for the first time the other night. Good movie.Ernie Davis was one fast dude and an inspirational story. When he won the Heisman, yeh, I choked up. How could you not? And Dennis Quaid as Head Coach Schwartzwalder - gold. Who else could have played the role? Quaid is a head coach. He should just play head coaches for the rest of his career. Forget the washed up corporate guy role, or the soppy ex-husband gig. Head coach specialist. Put that on your LinkedIn profile Dennis. -
Broncos vs Ravens Preview
28 Oct 2009 | 4:13 pmThis game could be a classic. A barn burner. A firecracker in the pants. A bottler. It might go off like a frog in a sock. Like Van Damme on the dance floor. Or surprise like a twist in Mad Men. Or Erika Eleniak popping out of a cake.We can only hope.Kyle Orton is playing like John Elway. Who would have thought it possible? In Chicago, Orton could barely make the 15-yard over the shoulder toss. Now he's arrowing them in like it's a Nerf ball. We're expecting Kyle to light it up again this week versus the Ravens. Ed Reed hasn't been himself lately and Ray Lewis isn't quick enough to beat…

Week 11 Preview: Cincinnati at Oakland
20 Nov 2009 | 3:03 pmIt seems too easy to pile on Al Davis and the Oakland Raider Asylum; that bit has done before, so we’ll just skip it altogether. Instead, the focus this week for the Bengals is preparing for the best thing the Raiders have going for them: their location. Every week it seems Cincinnati is issued a new challenge to disprove the Same-Old-Bengals Theory. For Week 11, the challenge is to show they can travel to the West Coast and win. In a sense, flying to Oakland is the practice-run for the San Diego game later this season. Instead of arriving on Friday like they normally do when heading… -
A Few Words from the President of Bears GM Jerry Angelo’s Fan Club
20 Nov 2009 | 2:20 pmCome with me on a stroll down memory lane, fellow Bears fans… Flashback to February 2007…. Your Bears were fresh off a Super Bowl season. They headed into the offseason with a lame duck head coach signed only through the upcoming season. National pundits and fans were outraged at the possibility that the first coach to take the Bears to the Super Bowl in 20+ years could actually walk away a season later! Well, the dude calling the shots did not let that happen. Jerry Angelo did what everyone was begging him to do at the time – he locked up Lovie for the foreseeable future. Now fast… -
Browns Coach Mangini Says Cribbs Expected to Play Sunday
20 Nov 2009 | 10:29 amDespite the obvious issues with the play that knocked him out, there appears to be some good news about the outcome of the hit on Josh Cribbs from Monday night. Today, coach Eric Mangini said he expects Cribbs to play when the Browns go against the Lions on Sunday. Cribbs was strapped to a backboard and carted off the field after the last play of the Browns’ 16-0 loss to Baltimore on Monday night. He was briefly hospitalized with a possible neck injury and concussion. “I anticipate Josh playing all of the roles he normally plays this week,” Mangini said. Mangini says all of the measures… -
Week 11 Preview: Buffalo at Jacksonville
20 Nov 2009 | 10:20 amI’m not sure if you’ve heard or not, but it’s been anything but calm or quiet around One Bills Drive this week. Quick recap of this past week’s events. Last Sunday, the Bills were trounced by the Titans, 41-17, giving up 24 points in the fourth quarter. Two days later, Bills owner Ralph Wilson Jr. pulled the plug on Dick Jauron, firing the beleaguered coach after 3 ½ seasons. Wilson tabbed defensive coordinator Perry Fewell to be the team’s interim head coach for the remainder of the season. On Wednesday, Fewell backed Jauron’s original plan for this week and announced the team… -

19 Nov 2009 | 8:50 pmby FanHouse NewswireFiled under: Dolphins, PanthersCHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Ricky Williams is 32 and far from done. A day after learning Brown is lost for the season, the Dolphins (5-5) continued their surge after an 0-3 start behind Williams. Childress Has Earned Chance to Finish Job With Vikings
19 Nov 2009 | 3:22 pmby Thomas GeorgeFiled under: Vikings, NFL Coaching"We made a lot of cultural changes. You don't come in with everything already firm. I thought this would be one of those rare chances. I didn't think I would be like (Bill) Parcells or (Dick) Vermeil where I was going to get multiple chances and shots.'' -- Vikings coach Brad Childress, reflecting on his 2006 hire in MinnesotaChildress Has Earned Chance to Finish Job With Vikings originally appeared on NFL FanHouse on Thu, 19 Nov 2009 18:22:00 EST .
