As a guy who has advocated Joe Banyard, it’s becoming clear with the lack of playing time, the coaching staff don’t believe he is ready for a heavier workload. Next in line for more touches is newcomer Ben Tate. The former second round pick definitely has the ability to be the feature back. This season in limited playing time, he had a two touchdown game and a career rushing gaming of 136 yards. The key word to the last sentence, “limited”. Tate has missed 3 games season, 8 the previous 3 seasons. It’s a shame, at 5-10, 220 he’s got the ideal build for an NFL back who can be…

Former Vikings coach, Denny Green used to say that a successful modern NFL passing offense was comprised of a tall quarterback throwing to tall receivers. Green successfully translated that model with the likes Brad Johnson to Cris Carter, Randall Cunningham and then Daunte Culpepper to Randy Moss. Several head coaching changes later and it may be time for the Vikings to re-implement Denny’s model. It’s not a completely unique one. Norv Turner had tall receivers in Dallas with Michael Irvin and Jay Novacek. In San Diego, he had Antonio Gates and Vincent Jackson. In theory, the…

Jerrick McKinnon has high athletic upside. He will probably lead the Vikings running back by committee approach for the foreseeable future, but if the Vikings want to hang tough with the Packers in week 12, they will have to give Joe Banyard an extended look. In the first half Banyard converted on two third downs, gritting out a 3rd and 2 rush and a 3rd and 6 dump off pass where he had to carry the defender past the third down marker. Both plays were a flashback to a typical 2005 Mo Williams play, tough yards, positive plays. In the game within a game construct, the Vikings would be wise to…

A 38-35 overtime loss signified more than just a tough defeat at the hands of a desperate San Diego Chargers team vying for a last-minute playoff berth. The game was a reflection of so many things that have have gone wrong with the 49ers this year. As has been the case with so many contests, San Francisco got out to a strong start. The 49ers held a 28-7 lead entering halftime.

One month ago, Jason Pierre-Paul had no idea what the future held for him. But on Wednesday, the Giants’ defensive end said he wants the Giants to be a part of it, Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News reports. “Yeah, if I can stay here, I would love to be a Giant for life,” JPP said. “I don’t know what the future has.” It was in November that JPP, a free agent after this season, was noncommittal about his future, saying “if I’m here, I’m here. If I’m not, I’m not.” But he seemed more relaxed on Wednesday, perhaps because he’s stepped up his play in recent…

If you have recently installed air ducts and in HVAC system in your home so that you can keep cool during the summer and warm during the winter, it’s important to understand that your ducting system can become clogged. This is the result of moisture, dust, and other types of particulate matter that can end up in your ducting system over time. The more that you use it, the more contaminants will fly in, and as a result you may end up breathing unwanted particulate matter in every room in your home. The importance of having a filter is known, but cleaning the actual ducting system is…

I have had the duty of picking a quality photographer for our wedding. As you can imagine, this is not an easy thing to do and most people end up failing when they try. I remember one wedding where the photographer was so demanding and so rude that everyone started to leave early. This is obviously a rare thing to see happen and most photographers are great people that only care about the results to the photos. They don’t get in the way, but after that experience, I wanted to make sure I was going with the right option immediately. I didn’t want to take any risks, you can also…

  • TPF’s Fives: Week 15 Rankings

    18 Dec 2014 | 9:27 am
Kind of slapping things together this week folks. I could give you the excuse that the holidays are on us like wrapping paper on gift boxes, but it’s the same stuff that many of you are going through. At this time of the season, things slow down to a near pre-season crawl. Some teams are mailing-it-in more than I am, but there are plenty of them with something to play for. That seals it, I am in “playoff” mode right now. Time toe end this introduction and get on with it. Oh yeah, stay tuned for the overall rankings at the end of the year. It isn’t going to shake out the way you think…
  • NFL: Playoff re-seeding necessary in 2015

    Mike Presley
    13 Dec 2014 | 6:00 am
Playoff re-seeding in the NFL has always been a hot topic every time someone brings it up. Whether it’s something to do with a double digit playoff team missing the playoffs, or a division champion with a worse record than a wild card team hosting a playoff game, this is a topic that forever will be water cooler talk. Until now. I wrote recently about how great parity is in the NFL and how it makes it better than any other sport. Teams can go from worst to first in just one season. Except parity was never meant to include a horrible, and just plain sad division. I’m looking at you…

Surprisingly, not much has shifted amongst this rankings. The Top and Bottom are pretty close to be the same as last week…except for the fact that Oakland is no longer in the Bottom! Congrats Raiders fans, you guys deserved a big win. The Middle would have pretty much consisted of the same teams as last week, minus Miami dropping out and Indy moving in. So, this week’s Middle will focus on the teams that are in-the-hunt for the playoffs. Five teams that are currently outside in the rain, peering through a foggy window, watching the teams that made the cut sitting inside and drinking hot…

    5 Dec 2014 | 9:01 am
With the rumors of San Francisco 49ers head coach, Jim Harbaugh leaving at the end of this season lets take a look at their Harbaugh could possibly land. Oakland Raiders: First team I believe where Harbaugh will go to is the Raiders. Harbaugh loves the bay area, he has mentioned it in dozens of interviews and press conferences. Lets not forget four years ago Harbaugh left Stanford University to come to San Francisco, which is less than a 40-minute drive. San Francisco to Oakland is only an 8-mile drive. Is his love for the bay area enough? How about having the first-round draft pick? With…

The Falcons beat the Cardinals. So, that means they’re the best team right now, right? Yeah, I didn’t think so either. This season has been all over the place (you may have seen me write that before) as it is, so the win wasn’t exactly a shock. Shocking is when the Jaguars top the Giants and the Saints grab a win…on the road! Since the Cardinals did in fact lose, the Top Five saw a lot of movement this week. The playoff picture is starting to unfold more and more. I will be talking about all the teams in the race in this week’s rankings. Well, most of them anyways. I dove into the…

  • NFL Predictions 2014: Week 16 Picks

    Bobby Brooks
    18 Dec 2014 | 8:30 pm
Favorites came out on top in Week 15 going 9-6-1 ATS, and have the slight edge overall this season at 110-107-3. And speaking of records, the worst 6 teams in the league are a combined 28-53-3 ATS. The Raiders have the best record among them, but only at 7-7. I find this interesting because we often hear so much about "fading the public", yet these teams haven't been covering all year - even with inflated point spreads to work with.Around the market, Football Outsiders spread picks went 6-9-1  (96-120-7 YTD). The Las Vegas SuperContest top 5 consensus picks had a big week going 4-0-1…
  • NFL Predictions 2014 Week 16: Ravens Vs Texans

    Bobby Brooks
    18 Dec 2014 | 1:18 pm
Baltimore Ravens Vs. Houston Texans: BAL -5 (Pinnacle)Market WatchWant to see a severe line move?  The Texans were -1 point favorites last week, but after Fitzpatrick got injured the line reopened at Ravens -3.5. It quickly moved to -4, and on Tuesday it moved to -4.5. Now we've seen it go to -5, and it wouldn't shock me if it continued to move more before kickoff. 83% of the bets are on Baltimore.Bottom LineIt's not recommended to bet a "bad number" when something better was available earlier in the week, but it also depends on how strong of a position you have on a game. In this case,…
  • NFL Predictions 2014 Week 16: Colts Vs Cowboys

    Bobby Brooks
    18 Dec 2014 | 1:00 pm
Indianapolis Colts Vs. Dallas Cowboys: IND +3 (Pinnacle)Market WatchLast week this game was a "pick em", but after the weekend it reopened at Cowboys -3.  With a few days to go before kickoff, 58% of the bets are on the road team.Bottom LineI must be missing something here because I think the Colts are the better team in this matchup, and that's before taking into account the DeMarco Murray injury. How much of an impact would Murray's absence be? I don't think their run game will suffer as much as one would think, because a lot of their success is driven by the OL. At the same time,…
  • NFL Predictions 2014 Week 16: Broncos Vs Bengals

    Bobby Brooks
    18 Dec 2014 | 10:42 am
Denver Broncos Vs. Cincinnati Bengals: DEN -3 (-115) (Pinnacle)Market WatchWestgate had the Broncos as -4 point favorites in the advanced line, but it reopened at -3.5 at +100 after Week 15 action. On Tuesday, it moved to -3, and it currently sits there with some extra juice. Will it move back to -3.5?  I think so, especially given who the teams are.  Right now, 73% of bets are on the Broncos.Bottom LineI could just type "Andy Dalton in prime-time" and call it a day for this write-up.  What would be the counter-argument?  Is there one?Earlier this season I was fooled…
  • NFL Betting Preview 2014 Week 16: Seahawks Vs Cardinals

    Bobby Brooks
    18 Dec 2014 | 10:15 am
Seattle Seahawks Vs. Arizona CardinalsMarket WatchThis point spread has seen a move from -6.5 in the advanced line to -7.5 on the opener. That's what happens when your QB gets injured and you have to start your #3.  The number hasn't moved since, and I'd be surprised if it does.  So far, two out of every three bets are on the Seahawks.Bottom LineFrom a betting perspective, the Cardinals might be the most interesting team this year. Sharp money hasn't respected what they've accomplished, and nor have the stats guys.  Football Outsiders have picked against them in 9 of the 13…

Last week was a baaaaadddd week for running backs. Le’Veon Bell did exactly what we thought he would, that’s not surprising and Jeremy Hill ran all over a Cleveland team that “had” a pretty good run defense. Jamaal Charles got to watch Knile Davis do all the work. Matt Asiata came out of nowhere. Despite an injury and the Packers organization saying he was going to split time, Eddie Lacy had a strong day against a really good defense. This is when weekly fantasy is going to start getting interesting and more specifically this weekend is going to be different. The lovely NFL has added…

You know that movie sequel that everybody gets excited for and can’t wait to see it, then ends up being disappointed? Last week the Saints were that movie sequel. They had a great matchup. They were at home, a week before had a huge win in Pittsburgh, and Carolina is 8th worst in the league against opposing QB’s and 7th worst against WR’s.  It was your golden ticket matchup of the week. WRONG!!! They blew it! They looked so bad fans are starting to bring back the paper bag masks.   And Peyton Manning……oh Peyton Manning. I have to give credit to Buffalo’s defense. They made sure…

Congratulations if you’re reading this you’ve probably succeeded in advancing to the second round of the fantasy playoffs (semifinals). Some may still need a little help from the waiver wire to fill an underperforming roster spot, while others may be out to block their opponents from acquiring talent. Either way there’s some available players who could make an impact in week 15. Wow what a week. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 6 td’s. Tre Mason was a beast. The Rams defense had a ridiculous day! Even the Jaguars defense had an awesome game against the Giants. The New York Jets ran the ball against Miami really well. I didn’t know that the Jets could do anything well, I mean Nick Folk has outscored both Jets quarterbacks in fantasy football. Cue Cris Carter “C’Mon Man!”  I was licking my lips waiting for the Cardinals/Falcons lineup. I couldn’t wait to watch Ellington run all over Atlanta. Every single Cardinal in that game was a dud. Let’s see how our writers have it shaking out. Princess Sparkle — North Carolina was an up and down team all season.  They come out and have wins against great teams like Georgia Tech and Duke and then lose big to NC State.   Rutgers has Caroo and with North Carolina’s passing defense as one of the worst in the country, he will have a field day with that secondary. I like Rutgers to win their first B1G…

Last week I went 13-3 SU and 9-5-2 ATS to bring the yearly records to 151-72-1 and 124-94-2.  I had a rough start to this week with Thursdays games but hopefully I can bounce back on the weekend games.Eagles (-7.5) over REDSKINS- This is a must win game for the Eagles and while I expect the Redskins to give an effort I don’t think they have the talent to keep up with  a potential playoff team. Eagles 35 Redskins 30Chargers (+1.5) over 49ERS- San Francisco is playing out the string and with a veteran team and what seems to be an outgoing coach most likely means even less effort than usual.

Titans (+4.5) over JAGUARS- I think its fitting that Thursday night football ends the season with perhaps the worst possible game of the last 10 years. After suffering through Jets/Titans last week Im not sure I can take back to back Tennessee games and doubt Ill give it more than  a glance. Just to keep up with the predictions Ill take the Titans to win outright.  Titans 17 Jaguars 16 The post NFL Predictions: Week 16 Thursday Night Football appeared first on Over the Cap.
  • Jay Cutler Benched

    Jason Fitzgerald
    17 Dec 2014 | 4:26 pm
I’ve posted many times here on how overvalued Jay Cutler has been and now according to Adam Scheffter of ESPN he has been benched for his poor play.Stunner from Chicago: Bears starting QB Jimmy Clausen this week, per source.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) December 17, 2014The move marks yet another chapter in the Cutler contract saga that has been heavily debated since it was signed last year. It was a contract that came under a great deal of scrutiny due to the high guarantees given to someone who at best could be described as inconsistent but talented. The questions really should…

  • Keep Calm and Carry On—Why a Loosing Record in the NFC South is Nothing to Worry About.

    LukeHB
    17 Dec 2014 | 6:45 am
Barring a miracle, someone in the NFC South is going to make it into the playoffs with a losing record this season. Indeed, the best any team can hope for is a 8-8 record, a measly .500 record. At the same time, the Philadelphia Eagles—whose 9-5 record guarantees them a better result than anyone in the NFC South, even if they lose out the season—currently find themselves on the outside looking in. If the season ended today, they would miss out on the playoffs. Whenever this happens, inevitably, the talk will begin about “fixing” the playoff format, adjusting the divisions and…
  • Upon Further Review: Did NFL Officials Blow Travis Kelce Fumble Call Against Arizona Cardinals?

    11 Dec 2014 | 4:05 am
If you have spent any time around the NFL fan forums, Reddit, or fan-powered sites like Bleacher Report or SBNation, you will undoubtedly know that fans are in uproar over a couple of pivotal calls during the Arizona Cardinals win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles blamed the loss solely on the officiating crew, and head coach Andy Ried had nothing positive to say about them either. The bigger concerns have been caused by NFL’s head of officiating Dean Blandino defended the on field call, even though fans still can’t seem to make sense of it. We take…
  • Ray Rice Reinstated: Will Any Team Sign Troubled Star?

    LukeHB
    1 Dec 2014 | 9:32 am
Ray Rice’s indefinite suspension is over, after an independent arbitrator determined that increasing his two game suspension was an “abuse of discretion” by Commissioner Roger Goodell. The ruling means that Rice—who was cut by the Baltimore Ravens, and subsequently cleared waivers unclaimed—is a free agent, and free to sign with any NFL team. But will any team sign RIce? Join me as we take a look. #458443248 / gettyimages.com Ray Rice is officially eligible to return to the NFL after an independent judge overturned his indefinite suspension. • Robert Griffin III Benched, Colt McCoy to Start against Colts—What’s Next for RGIII?

    LukeHB
    26 Nov 2014 | 8:34 am
In 2012, the Washington Redskins paid a kings ransom to secure the services of Robert Griffin III, their presumed franchise QB for years to come. The trade saw the Redskins send no fewer than six high value draft picks—their No. 6 overall pick that year, their second-round pick in 2012, and their first-round picks in 2013 and 2014—to move up 4 spots and grab Griffin. Two-and-a-half years, and 33 starts later, the RGIII era seems to be over, with Griffin expected to be a healthy scratch in place of Colt McCoy for the Redskins upcoming game against the Indianapolis Colts. We take a look at…
  • Will Marshawn Lynch be a Seattle Seahawk in 2015?

Marshawn Lynch is running like a man on a mission, posting career numbers in recent weeks. Yet the rumour remains that the Seattle Seahawks are preparing to run Lynch out-of-town, in spite of claims to the contrary by the team. Will Lynch still be in Seattle in 2015? We take a look #459079114 / gettyimages.com The man they call Beast Mode—Marshawn Lynch, running back for the Seattle Seahawks—has proved why he carries this nickname again over recent weeks. Lynch appears to be playing some of the best football of his career, and is making a real case that he is the most valuable running…

  • 2014 Week 16 Detroit Lions Injury Report

    Vince Vielhaber
    19 Dec 2014 | 1:17 pm
The Detroit Lions have released their weekly injury report for their week 16 match up against the Chicago Bears.  The report shows a fairly healthy Detroit team, although a new name showed up on the report this week.  Mohammed Seisay is listed as questionable and given the signing of Josh Thomas, I would not expect Seisay to play this week. I do not usually discuss opposing team injury statuses in here, but I think it is worth noting that Chicago will be without S Chris Conte and K Robbie Gould.  Chicago will instead roll with Brock Vereen at safety and Jay Feely at kicker.  Feely tried…
  • 2014 Week 16 Preview Detroit Lions Versus Chicago Bears

    Vince Vielhaber
    18 Dec 2014 | 11:52 am
It seems like just yesterday the Detroit Lions were cruising to a victory over the Chicago Bears.    The Bears have played terrible football since then.  Detroit has a chance to seal up a playoff spot with a win this Sunday against the Bears.  Chicago has made things interesting though as they have benched Jay Cutler and replaced him with Jimmy Clausen.  Will the Lions lose for a 3rd time this season to a backup quarterback or will they cruise to another easy win against the Bears and seal up a playoff berth for the first time since 2011?   OFFENSE Detroit Lions Offensive Line vs.
  • Chicago Bears To Start Jimmy Clausen Versus Detroit Lions

    Vince Vielhaber
    18 Dec 2014 | 7:28 am
The Chicago Bears announced late last night that they were benching highly paid starter Jay Cutler in favor of Jimmy Clausen this week against the Detroit Lions.  The move was a bit of a shocker as Cutler has always given the Bears a chance to win, even though they usually don’t.  Clausen, on the other hand, is 1-9 as an NFL starter and has not started a game since 2010.  The move on paper looks to favor the Lions but moves like this always seem to hurt them.  Needless to say, the Bears made this week interesting.
  • Detroit Lions Claim Corner Josh Thomas Off Waivers

    Vince Vielhaber
    18 Dec 2014 | 7:08 am
Josh Thomas was claimed last night off waivers by the Detroit Lions to fill the roster spot vacated when they placed right tackle LaAdrian Waddle on injured reserve.  Thomas, a 5th round pick in 2011, was waived by the New York Jets this past week.  The Lions can always use depth at corner, and likely want a chance to evaluate what he can do, while using him immediately in the special teams.  Thomas has prototypical size at 5 foot 11 and 185 pounds.  He has bounced around the league so far due to not being good enough to stick.  The Lions will likely take a long look at him now and…
  • Detroit Lions Place LaAdrian Waddle On Injured Reserve

    Vince Vielhaber
    17 Dec 2014 | 1:53 pm
The Detroit Lions have placed LaAdrian Waddle on injured reserve, effectively ending his injury filled season.  Waddle, who was carted off during the Lions week 15 game against the Minnesota Vikings, has reportedly strained his ACL.  It is the same injury that Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley suffered and he has been out for over 6 weeks now.  Waddle will be replaced by Cornelius Lucas who has played well recently in relief of Waddle and Riley Reiff.  Waddle’s move to IR opens a roster spot but currently no moves have been made to fill that spot.

  • Worst Sportsmanship Moments of 2014

    17 Dec 2014 | 10:01 am
Those who attended the 2014 Musial Awards saw the very best sportsmanship moments from the past year. Selflessness, respect, civility and integrity were on full display. Crying was a sign of joy and standing ovations were commonplace.Alas, we know there are two sides to every coin. If the Musial Awards is the head, then this next list is most certainly the tail. The Worst Sportsmanship Moments list shines a light on the type of behaviors we never want to see in sports or anywhere else. Why would the Sports Commission create such a list? Why accentuate the negative? To be…

  • The Sayreville Bombers and the destruction of innocence

    12 Dec 2014 | 9:47 am
The title of this post is not hyperbole. For 11 students at Sayreville (N.J.) War Memorial High School, their innocence is gone. In September of this year, over a period of 10 days, four freshman football players from Sayreville were allegedly sexually assaulted by seven members of the varsity team. Maybe you've glanced at a headline or two about hazing relative to this case. This story is not about hazing. What happened in Sayreville was about sexual assault and more to the point --rape.Hazing involves freshmen being stuffed in a locker or shaving cream being put in their helmets. • Pro athletes take a stand in national debate

    9 Dec 2014 | 11:07 am
In the last couple of weeks, professional athletes in the NBA and NFL have taken a stand relative to the police-involved deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., Eric Garner in New York and Tamir Rice in Cleveland. Their public stances have added fuel to an already intense debate surrounding police departments and the communities they serve. I have written in this space many times that sports is not life -- sports is a part of life. And we can no longer sit idly by as the world around us (literally and figuratively) burns.Athletes from the NBA and NFL have made their feelings known. Here are…
