No matter our debt, most of which she incurred, she continued to spend away. That has led to many an argument. Her spending made us have to move into a smaller house. That didn't deter her wasting hundreds a month on the dogs and a brand new car. I vilified her and her choices noting that it has screwed over the kids and I. She told me that I'm too... 29 Sep 2014 | 9:02 pm
Kansas City Cheifs RB Knile Davis rushed for a team-high 107 yards on 16 carries in Week 5 and added one catch for 12 yards. Footballguys View: This game got out of hand early, and the Chiefs turned the game over to backups. Davis was able to work behind Jamaal Charles, and he had a big day. We're not expecting that going forward so long as Charles is healthy--unless the Chiefs blow out another team again.

It was LaFell's first TD with the Patriots. Footballguys View: LaFell had a big grab late in the game during garbage time. He's one of the few bright spots on this Patriots offense.

  • Not blitzing Aaron Rodgers worked for Lions, not Bears

    29 Sep 2014 | 10:07 pm
Coach Marc Trestman on Monday defended his team’s decision not to blitz Aaron Rodgers often, even if, after a historically dominant performance, it’s hard to imagine the Bears’ defense could’ve done any worse. The team brought an extra rusher on only 10 occasions during the 38-17 loss Sunday to the Packers, trying to replicate what the Lions accomplished the week before: dropping defenders into zone coverage and trying to provide pressure with only four pass rushers. “You gotta be real careful with the blitz with a guy like this,” Trestman said at Halas Hall. “Because as easy as…

Tight end Martellus Bennett has gotten off to a much better start than he did last year. One day after setting a career high with 134 yards on nine catches, Bennett revealed Monday at Halas Hall that he suffered two major injuries early last season. Bennett said he tore the medial collateral ligament in his knee and separated his shoulder in the first three weeks last season. He said neither required surgery. “I was banged up the whole year,” he said. He credited his fast start — Bennett leads the Bears with 295 receiving yards — with renewed health and …
  • Marc Trestman dials back criticism of Brandon Marshall

    29 Sep 2014 | 10:06 pm
Before addressing the communication between his quarterback and wide receiver, coach Marc Trestman did some of his own. One day after saying Brandon Marshall ran the wrong route — a hook-and-go rather than an 18-yard hook — on Jay Cutler’s second interception in the Bears’ 38-17 loss Sunday against the Packers, Trestman carefully tried to dial back his criticism of Marshall. He said he gives Marshall and Cutler opportunities to change routes with signals before the snap, and the two had a “communication error” before the throw. “You can’t put it on any one person,” he said.

When square shouldered American footballers storm into London’s Wembley Stadium this weekend, 80,000 odd sports fans will hope for a spectacle. They’ll anticipate heroic quarterbacking, rampaging rushes and pulverising tackling. But just as it is for fans of an English club treading the waters of relegation, hope isn’t always nearly enough. In a historical context, they don’t come much mightier than the Raiders and Dolphins, who have five championship titles and rooms full of legends between them. Unfortunately, most of that success occurred in the 1970s, when roughhousing was as…

The modern era of football has seen two opposing ideas worked into playbooks as if it were imperative they co-exist. I’m talking about attacking the defense with either a running quarterback or a passing one, which to outsiders might seem as trivial as casting a blonde or brunette Bond girl. Let’s just agree that both work.Of course, there’s no reason why a quarterback can’t be both, that is, an excellent runner who's also able to fire a 30-yard bullet between defenders arms, bobbing helmets and spittle. Seattle’s Russell Wilson might just be the best example of such a player,…

  • Chicago Wedding Photographer to Help Photo Tennis Action Shots?

    Rudy
    14 Sep 2014 | 6:57 am
I have had the duty of picking a quality photographer for our wedding. As you can imagine, this is not an easy thing to do and most people end up failing when they try. I remember one wedding where the photographer was so demanding and so rude that everyone started to leave early. This is obviously a rare thing to see happen and most photographers are great people that only care about the results to the photos. They don’t get in the way, but after that experience, I wanted to make sure I was going with the right option immediately. I didn’t want to take any risks, you can also…

  • NFL: Say Goodbye to London…. for good

    Mike Presley
    28 Sep 2014 | 5:00 am
For the NFL, expanding into London has been one of the main projects under Roger Goodell. The NFL has exported games over to London since 2007 and has seen an increase to three games this season.  While the NFL is bent on taking over the London market, it’s time for the NFL to realize nobody in the United States or London wants a NFL team in London. This weekend the Oakland Raiders host the Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium. That’s right, host as in the Raiders are considered the home team while the Dolphins are considered the road team. Explain to me how the Raiders can be the…

    Patrick Coggins
    26 Sep 2014 | 12:28 pm
Then there were three, after a few weeks of NFL games we are left with three undefeated teams.  Each year the NFL has a few unbeaten teams early in the season that either will be considered contenders or pretenders as far as making a strong playoff run.  The three that remain unconquered are the Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles, and Cincinnati Bengals, that are eager to show the rest of the league they are ready to take that next step. Cincinnati Bengals- Contender The Cincinnati Bengals had a disappointing result last season as they failed for the second straight season to win a…
  • Growing pains is the early theme in Washington

    Sean Naylor
    26 Sep 2014 | 7:38 am
Depth in National Football League is a commodity. All teams have depth. It is just whether or not the depth is talented enough to get by. Or is the depth talented but too young and going to suffer some growing pains? This is the early case of the Washington Redskins. Coming into the 2014 season, the Washington Redskins lacked talented depth at many positions. They blamed this on the lack of early draft picks in 2012, 2013 and 2014. They also blamed this on the lack of salary cap money due to league imposed penalties the last two years. However, those penalties went away; the lack of talent…

Every football fan/addict wants one thing… More Football!!!!! As the regular season gets under way, we get our fill with so many games going on at once, and depending on your TV provider, some are fortunate to be able to watch them all. What about after the final whistle blows? Where do football fans go once the confetti drops at the big game? After the end of the season, we are fortunate enough to be able to talk about the game for a while, and then what the next year has in store. But once everything is said and done, there is a serious lull for football fans. Myself, I also enjoy…

Instead of listing off all 32 teams and where they fit next to each other, I compartmentalized the project into “The Fives.” The top five teams, the bottom five teams, and five teams that are somewhere in between. C’mon you and I both know that all we care about is who’s on top, and who’s on the bottom. Everything else is just a motley collection (now on tour!). The Top Five  #1. • NFL Predictions 2014: Week 5 Picks

    Bobby Brooks
    28 Sep 2014 | 8:19 pm
Sunday's games are in the books and it was another winning week for the favorites. They went 7-6 ATS, but dogs are still slightly ahead 32-28-1 overall. Scoring was through the roof this week as overs won for the second week in a row going 9-4, and now lead 32-29 on the season. The LVH Supercontest consensus picks went 3-2, and improved to 13-7 on the season. The Football Outsiders ATS picks went an abysmal 2-10-1 in Week 4. On the season they now sit 21-38-2.  I expect them to turn it around now that the stats are building up, but we'll see. They have great analysis, but iffy betting…
  • NFL Predictions 2014 Week 4: Patriots Vs. Chiefs

    Bobby Brooks
    27 Sep 2014 | 5:30 pm
New England Patriots Vs. Kansas City Chiefs: NE -3 (-115) (Pinnacle)Market WatchIn the Westgate look-ahead line, the Patriots were -6.5, but when it re-opened after Week 3, it was only -3.5. We've now seen a move down to -3 (with juice). The question is whether or not this line is an overadjustment or not. I'm willing to say yes, but we'll see how it shakes out at kickoff.  Bets are almost split down the middle with 52% on the Chiefs.Bottom LineWho covers: Patriots or Chiefs? After a poor New England showing in Miami in Week 1, "sharp" money came in on the Vikings in Week 2. The line got…

Is this the "year of the dog"?  Favorites had something to say about that going 9-7 ATS in Week 3. Overall, dogs still hold the lead 26-21-1. Overs came out on top 9-7, but unders are slightly ahead 25-23 for the season.LVH SuperContest top 5 consensus picks won big, going 5-0 ATS. They improve to 10-5 ATS through three weeks, which is the best start I've seen since I've started this blog. The Football Outsiders picks struggled for the third straight week going 7-8-1 ATS. Overall they are 18-29-1, which is a deep hole to climb out of.All in all, this probably sums up the weekend for the…
  • NFL Predictions 2014 Week 4: Saints Vs. Cowboys

    Bobby Brooks
    27 Sep 2014 | 5:00 pm
New Orleans Saints Vs. Dallas Cowboys: NO -3 (Pinnacle)Market WatchThe Westgate (LVH) look-ahead line in this game was -3.5 for the Saints. Once Week 3 was done, it re-opened at -3.  I don't agree with this adjustment and think it should have gone even higher in favor of New Orleans. Evidently, the Cowboys are beginning to earn some market respect after posting back-to-back wins. Thus far, 70% of the tickets are on the Saints.Bottom LineWho covers: Saints or Cowboys? When the Saints came to Dallas last year, they annihilated them 49-17. I don't expect the same score this time, but I do…
  • NFL Predictions 2014 Week 4: Packers Vs. Bears

    Bobby Brooks
    26 Sep 2014 | 10:31 am
Green Bay Packers Vs. Chicago Bears: GB -1.5 (Bovada)Market WatchThis is an interesting point spread.  In the Westgate look-ahead line, the Packers were -3 point favorites. Once they lost to Detroit on Sunday, the line re-opened with the Bears as -1 point favorites. Then, after Chicago beat the Jets, Green Bay was once again the favorite at -1.5. The current line has moved to -2, but you can find -1.5 if you have sportsbook options. I think anything under -3 is value though. Right now, 59% of the bets are on the road team.Bottom LineWho covers: Packers or Bears? With this pick, I'm…

For the entire preseason and the first two weeks of the regular season, the Giants looked like a shell of a team. Eli Manning looked like a quarterback that never won a playoff game let alone two Super Bowl MVP‘s, the defense was getting gashed, receivers were dropping balls and special teams were allowing big returns. 25 Sep 2014 | 8:27 am
The story of B1G play pretty much re-wrote itself in week 4 of the 2014 college football season. After a dismal first 3 weeks that had the conference at the center of criticism of every sports media outlet in the country, the B1G bounced back to win 12 out of 13 games in week 4. One better is that the conference managed a 4-1 record against fellow Power 5 conferences. Michigan had the B1G’s only loss, Utah. The conference did lose a lot of its early season marquee matchups but, as I warned you last week, it’s too early to know who any of these teams are. Football is a week to week sport.

Can you have a trap game if you’ve been considered a trap team?  This week, Rutgers goes up against its final 2014 non-conference opponent, Tulane from New Orleans.  Tulane has played a fairly aggressive Power 5 schedule so far, up against Georgia Tech and Duke, all while moving into a new conference this year, the AAC. Rutgers fans are somewhat acquainted with the American Athletic Conference, which morphed from the Big East a year ago.  I say that with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek, as Rutgers was sentenced to that Limbo just last year, playing a waiting game to begin in the B1G…

The Buffalo Bills have benched starting QB EJ Manuel in favor of journeyman Kyle Orton in an attempt to stabilize a season that may have been slipping away. The decision was somewhat notable because Manuel was drafted in the first round of the 2013 draft and was expected to be the future of the organization.  Such moves often spell the end of a player’s run with a team as a viable option as a starter. The move again shows the importance of the new CBA in the role QB decision making,. Though Manuel would not have been very highly compensated under the old system there would have been more…

  • Patriots lose to the Chiefs Struggles Continue?

    Adam Holguin
    29 Sep 2014 | 10:16 pm
The New England Patriots were buried by the Kansas City Chiefs during this past Monday Night Football. New England failed to put up any points on the score board before the first half of the game. The Patriots went with a 3 man RB committee which featured Sidney Ridley (28 yds), Shane Vereen (26 yds), and James White (21 yds) for a total of 75 rushing yards. Because the running game was never established, this forced Tom Brady to press the passing game and play from behind. It has been noted that New England no longer has the elite talented receivers they once had (Moss, Welker, Hernandez).

Allen was hired as the Raiders head coach prior to the 2012 season. The loss brought Dennis Allen's record to 8-28 since being named head coach in 2012. Allen now has two 4-12 campaigns and an 0-4 start as the only material on his head coaching resume. On Monday night, the Raiders finally pulled the plug on Allen, firing him four games into his third season on the job. The Raiders have been…

I can't help but notice that each player has a different length leash, some, it seems, have none. For instance, when a player fumbles he is usually benched for the rest of the game, or at least for an extended period of the game. We have seen this over the past couple with guys like Stevan Ridley and Bobby Rainey, but it seems to differ among each player, but why? It seems like Rex Ryan has given Geno Smith a much longer leash than a lot of other teams would have. #453316600 / gettyimages.com Former NFL Player of the Year, Super Bowl Champion and 3 times Pro Bowler, Ray Rice, has been released by the Baltimore Ravens, and handed an indefinite suspension by the league. Rice was cut, and suspended following the release of video of his assault on his then then-fiancée (now wife) by TMZ Sports. Last month, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that Ray Rice would receive a two game suspension following his assault Janay Palmer. Almost immediately, the criticism began, with most considering the suspension too lenient, given the nature of the…

The NFL Regular Season is underway, and as is often the case, it was full of surprises no-one could have predicted after the off-season and preseason periods. And at the same time, some things seemed to remain the same, in spite of plenty of indication that they should change. We look at five of the things we learned  from the NFL  opening weekend after the jump. 1. NFC West Remains Division to Beat In their opening games, both the NFL Champion Seattle Seahawks and 2013 playoff contender San Francisco 49ers proved that they are still amongst the favourites to contend for the Super Bowl…

  • Detroit Lions Defeat New York Jets On The Road

    Vince Vielhaber
    29 Sep 2014 | 7:35 am
The Detroit Lions defeated the New York Jets on Sunday by a score of 24-17.  The game featured quite a few tense moments for Detroit fans.  The opening drive for the Jets was one good example.  In the first drive of the game, the highly touted run defense of the Detroit Lions showed its first flaws of the season.  New York drove down the field with mostly running plays for Chris Ivory as he racked up 51 yards.  When the drive ended on a Nick Folk field goal, The Detroit Lions were staring down a 3-0 hole right away.  That did not deter them as they drove down the field and put up a…

The Detroit Lions released this week’s injury report.  The only surprise here, which is a minor surprise, is the status of LaAdrian Waddle.  He is listed as doubtful after three days of practice, one being heavily limited.  We will have to wait another week on his availability.  As for Joseph Fauria, it is anyone’s guess for how long he will be out.  He was on crutches today indicating that there was no shot at him playing this week and head coach Jim Caldwell had no comment on his status.   TE Joseph Fauria (Ankle)- Out CB Cassius Vaughn (Ankle) – Out LB Travis…
  • 2014 Week Four Preview Detroit Lions Versus New York Jets

    Vince Vielhaber
    26 Sep 2014 | 12:22 pm
This game will be decided on turnovers alone.  Geno Smith has hurt his team with interceptions and fumbles.  If the top ranked Lions defense continues its rein of terror, the Jets offense has no chance.  If the Detroit Lions offense does not commit turnovers, and if Matthew Stafford shows up sharp, this game could get ugly.  Lets not forget though that the Jets defense is not one to be taken lightly.   OFFENSE Detroit Lions Offensive Line vs. New York Jets Defensive Line –  The Jets have a solid defensive line.  The Lions are still shaky on the offensive line, especially at…
  • Tahir Whitehead To Start In Place Of Stephen Tulloch

    Vince Vielhaber
    24 Sep 2014 | 2:26 pm
The Detroit Lions have decided on Stephen Tulloch‘s replacement at middle linebacker.  Originally, it was thought that DeAndre Levy would take over at middle linebacker as he had played that position early in his NFL career and he replaced Tulloch in Sunday’s game.  Coach Jim Caldwell, though, does not want to interrupt Levy’s terrific play by moving him around too much.  Instead, Tahir Whitehead will take over that spot and Ashlee Palmer will take over Tahir Whitehead‘s spot on the outside in non-nickel packages. Losing Tulloch is a big blow to this defense but…

  • Parents attack coach with brass knuckles, coach's wife repels attack with gun, coach pulls his gun, all in front of kids

    12 Sep 2014 | 9:26 am
Forgive the long title, but this story out of Wichita, Kan. is really out-of-bounds. Watch the KAKE-TV video below (email subscribers click here to view media). This can't continue. Football playing time does not warrant an assault on a man with brass knuckles. Football does not warrant guns being pulled in front of kids. This is beyond embarrassing. It's reckless and dangerous.Beating the coach up won't make him play your kids more. You can't drive your kid to practice from jail. While I am being somewhat flippant, parents need to take the advice we often give our kids: Think before you…
  • Now that Ray Rice is gone, here's what you say to your son...

    9 Sep 2014 | 1:37 pm
The Baltimore Ravens cut running back Ray Rice and the NFL suspended him indefinitely on Monday after TMZ video surfaced showing him knocking out his former fiancee and current wife, Janay Rice. Rice's career is probably over. No team would dare sign him in the current climate. Even if one wanted to, the NFL's indefinite suspension makes it an impossibility.Ray Rice's "firing" does not end the discussion about domestic violence, though. The men who commit acts of domestic violence against women have not been purged from the Earth. As a matter of fact, many of the men who will become abusers…
  • Bengals show class and heart in cutting player

    5 Sep 2014 | 9:41 am
When the Cincinnati Bengals completed their final cuts last Saturday, the roster did not include defensive tackle Devon Still. Getting cut deals a serious blow to any athlete's dream of playing in the NFL. For Devon Still, It could've meant something worse. Still's four-year-old daughter, Leah, was diagnosed with stage four pediatric cancer in June. How would he provide for her now? Aside from a good salary, NFL players also receive health insurance for their families. Worse yet, if another team wanted to sign him, how could he possibly leave Leah...even if leaving meant he could better take…
  • The Michael Sam conversation we will have with our kids

    2 Sep 2014 | 9:58 am
Sports is the closest thing we have to a meritocracy, but it is not a perfect one. Working hard, studying and taking care of yourself will get you very far. Putting your head down and grinding it out will get you on many a roster. However, there are those times when being good, even great, just isn't good enough.Free agent NFL defensive end Michael Sam was released by the St. Louis Rams over the weekend. He was not picked up by any of the other 31 franchises, nor was he signed to anyone's practice squad. Sam played well during the NFL preseason. He had three sacks and 11 tackles, 10 were…
