The Seattle Seahawks are once again going to play in the Super Bowl this Sunday and they will once again be playing a team with a legendary quarterback from this generation in Tom Brady and his New England Patriots. Last Super Bowl the Seahawks rattled Denver Bronco’s quarterback Peyton Manning on their way to winning the Lombardi Trophy on a 43-8 route. Since the start of the 21st century the biggest debate has been who is a better quarterback Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. Brady has the rings but Manning has the MVP’s. Peyton dominates in the regular season but chokes in the playoffs.

Brutal: the job by the refs in the Dallas Green Bay game in the closing minutes. The play in question: a fourth-down pass to the two-yard line by Dallas’ Tony Romo to wide receiver Dez Bryant. Bryant secured the ball to his shoulder as he landed one foot, held the ball with his left as the second foot came down, then took a third step and a lunge for the end zone with his left arm outstretched. Part of the ball hit the ground, ran up the side of Bryant’s hand, into the air, where he recaptured it. Here’s the definition of a catch as defined by the National Football League.

You’ve called him pompous, vain, self-serving, self-aggrandizing, idiotic (Jimmy-Johnson-fighting), Chris-Christie-hugging wind bag. I won’t argue with you. But you’ve also called Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones a terrible boss, a terrible general manager, meddling, in-over-his head, stupid, and destined never to achieve success. A tenure of .500 teams during his tenure as the head man after he sent Jimmy Johnson packing in a fit of pique didn’t lend itself to all of that name-calling, maybe…but did lend itself to most of it. Jones just couldn’t seem to…

Ndamukong Suh is one of the most feared defensive linemen in the NFL today. Suh has been named to the Pro Bowl four times and as well been elected to the All-Pro team every season including First-Team four times. It is fair to mention that Suh has had his fair shares of lows to go with his highs. Suh has been fined a total of $286,875 by the NFL for multiple player-safety violations, and suspended once for two games; in week 17 of this season Suh was…

With the first round done we are entering the second with the OL fixed most likely. There are still many areas for improvement and in the second round I am going to lean more on the defensive side of the ball. It will be linebacker overboard here in the second. The Pick: Denzel Perryman ILB, Miami The Giants need help everywhere on the defensive side of the ball. 9 Feb 2015 | 7:09 am
Everybody loves Mike Riley. From the moment he was hired as the new head coach at Nebraska, the positive comments and love for Riley flowed into the state and program. Nobody has anything bad to say about the guy — not a thing. You almost wonder why he is coaching football instead of heading up some community improvement non-profit or even getting into politics. Then again, maybe he’s too nice for politics. Whatever the case, all of the positivity — for better or for worse — heightens my senses and makes me more curious. I want to ask him questions. I want to peel back…
  • Big Ten Coaches: What Do You Do Here?

    admin
    5 Feb 2015 | 11:46 am
About a year ago, I made an admittedly weak attempt at ranking the resumes of what were then the coaches in the Big Ten Conference. I’m not going to do that again. Instead, today I’m going to give a quick once-over of the 14 coaches and consolidate a bunch of information that you could gather on your own with relative ease. We are going to look at what each coach brings to the table from an accomplishment standpoint, including how he fared on National Signing Day — because apparently that’s something you care about. How do I know you care about it? Because ESPN devoted…
  • The Recruiting Process In College Athletics Needs To Change

    admin
    4 Feb 2015 | 11:34 am
There has got to be a better way to recruit and award scholarships to prospective students for sports.  The way in which colleges and universities recruit athletes for their football teams (and basketball, though not as bad) creates a system in which sniping, back-biting, outright lying and general nastiness is not only accepted, but encouraged.  If the Power 5 programs really want to do something important, that would be a great place to start. Colleges are given certain times of the year they can recruit, what they can offer, and what they can and cannot say.  I do not have particular…
  • Several B1G Stars Projected As High Picks in 2015 NFL Draft

    admin
    27 Jan 2015 | 11:19 am
Photo by Mike Carter, Associated Press We have a long way to go between now and May when Roger Goodell saunters onto a stage in Chicago — serenaded by a chrous of boos for a variety of reasons — and starts reading off the names of tomorrow’s NFL stars. Be that as it may, the NFL Draft “experts” around the country are never shy about releasing their own mock drafts early and often. The Big Ten is well represented in a number of the mock drafts. I’ve seen as many as six players in the conference listed as potential first rounders in specific mocks —…
  • Plenty Of Former B1G Stars Will Be On Display In Super Bowl XLIX

    admin
    20 Jan 2015 | 8:52 am
The Big Ten claimed the first ever College Football Playoff Championship this season. Now, it will be a Big Ten quarterback who will raise the Vince Lombardi trophy at the conclusion of the Super Bowl for the second consecutive year. Russell Wilson (Wisconsin) and Tom Brady (Michigan) highlight the list of former Big Ten stars who will be on display in the Super Bowl on February 1st. That said, there is no shortage of Super Bowl star power from the Big Ten Conference. On Seattle’s side, former Iowa tight end Tony Moeaki should see playing time. Former Penn State offensive tackle Garry…

  • Roster Cut Recap: February 27

    Jason Fitzgerald
    27 Feb 2015 | 6:01 pm
Well it has certainly been a very busy day around the NFL as the cut season is officially under way and teams made a number of moves. Rather than fill up our blog portion with multiple posts here is a recap of all of todays action that we had not commented on before.Arizona CardinalsThe Cardinals released defensive tackle Darnell Dockett from the final year of his $33.5 million contract. The soon to be 34 year old Dockett missed all of last season with an injury and was set to count for $9.8 million against the Cardinals salary cap. The team will save $6.8 million by releasing him. Unlike…

Estimated 2015 Cap Space: $18.5M ($143M cap limit)Roster OverviewPlayers Under Contract: 56 Pro Bowlers: 6 Unrestricted Free Agents: 14(7 with 50%+ playtime) Draft Selection: 27Salary Cap BreakdownFree Agents to Re-signThe number one priority for Dallas this offseason should be keeping Dez Bryant on the roster. Bryant is a rare talent and not the type of player you would expect to fall apart after signing the big contract. His resume is far superior to the Mike Wallace types who have fluctuating numbers. Bryant has some off the field issues that may be hanging over his head that can make the…
  • Roster Cut Roundup Part II: February 26

    Jason Fitzgerald
    26 Feb 2015 | 6:48 pm
After doing our initial post looking at today’s cut we had a few late announcements of cuts that I assume will be made official tomorrow- Steven Jackson and Tyvon Branch.Branch has spent his entire career with the Raiders and was the last completely out of place contract that defined the Raiders for a generation, before the team began the process of slashing the roster in 2013. Brach was unable to stay healthy the last two seasons, playing in just 5 games over two years. He was to count for $9.65 million against the Raiders cap and will now cost $6.67 million in dead money. The Raiders…
  • Roster Cut Roundup: February 26

    26 Feb 2015 | 3:33 pm
Today we had another three “name value” cuts in Anthony Fasano, Kendall Langford and Will Blackmon. Each player is now free to sign with any team and continue their NFL career. The release of Langford created the most cap space of the releases. He was set to count for $7 million on the Rams salary cap and his release creates $6 million in cap room. Langford had signed a four year, $22 million contract in 2012 and will now count for $1 million in dead cap space. His impact had fallen considerably which made him expendable. The Rams should now have no issues with their cap numbers…

    26 Feb 2015 | 9:33 am
A few weeks ago Matt and Stephen from Reality Sports Online reached out to me about their very innovative Fantasy Football platform and I really thought it was impressive so I figured I would help get the word out about what they are offering.RSO has created a year round fantasy platform that puts you in full control of a team as if you are a real general manager of an NFL team. The game itself starts with a the NFL auction room where you and the other teams in your league will bid on every player in the NFL.  Each team plays within the real constraints of the salary cap and you are limited…

  • Detroit Lions Re-sign Longsnapper Don Muhlbach

    Vince Vielhaber
    27 Feb 2015 | 1:46 pm
The Detroit Lions finally signed one of their own free agents today when they agreed to a one year deal with longsnapper Don Muhlbach.  Muhlbach’s return was expected as he is an excellent longsnapper and the team wants to maintain as much cohesion there as possible especially with the kicker position still a question mark.  The one year deal means this position will be a question mark again next offseason.
  • Detroit Lions Sign Defensive End Phillip Hunt

    Vince Vielhaber
    27 Feb 2015 | 7:32 am
The Detroit Lions have signed defensive end Phillip Hunt.  While Hunt is not a known commodity around the NFL, he does have some experience in the league.  Hunt has spent some time playing with the Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles, and Indianapolis Colts.  He also played in the CFL where he once registered 16 sacks in a season.  Having been undrafted out of Houston, the 29 year old pass rusher is better suited for a 3-4 linebacker role than he is a 4-3 defensive end given that he is only 6’0 248lbs.  But then again, so is Daryl Tapp and he did well for the Lions last season.
  • Detroit Lions Release Reggie Bush

    Vince Vielhaber
    25 Feb 2015 | 2:56 pm
The Detroit Lions have released running back Reggie Bush in a cost cutting move.  The team saved 1.7 million by letting the veteran running back go.  The move is no surprise as he was injured and ineffective this past season.  The move allows the team to target a running back in a deep draft class at the position. The team made the move for multiple reasons.  There has been speculation that with Bush’s ineffectiveness this past season, he was expendable and that the team would likely want a younger running back to improve the run game as I mentioned above.  The other two reasons…
  • Martin Mayhew Discusses Futures Of Some Free Agents

    Vince Vielhaber
    20 Feb 2015 | 2:47 pm
Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew discussed the futures of some of the Detroit Lions pending free agents at the NFL Combine with Detroit media members.  He did not discuss every player, but he did make mention of a few of them, as well as clarifying statuses of some of their other players as well. Defensive end Jason Jones will be a Lion next season and is not expected to restructure.  Mayhew was adamant that he likes what Jones has done for the Lions and expects him to suit up next season. Defensive end George Johnson, a restricted free agent, will be tendered.  That means that…
  • Detroit Lions Still Deciding Whether To Tag Ndamukong Suh

    Vince Vielhaber
    16 Feb 2015 | 7:48 am
ESPN’s Ed Werder is reporting that the Detroit Lions are still mulling over whether or not to use the franchise tag on Ndamukong Suh.  Suh, whose contract is voided and will become an unrestricted free agent, is expecting to test free agency in hopes of a big pay day.  There are rumors floating around about him wanting to go to New York, Seattle, etc.  There are also rumors that he will go to whoever pays him the most (Oakland, Jacksonville, etc.)  The truth of the matter is that no one knows where Suh wants to be or what the deciding factor will be for him.  He has a history with…

  • 'White Power' signs mar high school basketball game

    19 Feb 2015 | 12:22 pm
You may be surprised or even outraged by the following video. I'm not. When it comes to racism in America, and by extension American sports, nothing surprises me anymore and I'm just fresh out of rage (email subscribers click here to view media).I am of the belief that racism is still being taught in homes throughout this great land of ours. How else can anyone explain what happened in this game? A kid could make any number of posters expressing his love for his own team or his disdain for the opponent, but 'White Power?' That kind of hatred is passed down. That kind of bigotry is…

  • Should Titans Stop The Blidi-ng? The Future of Blidi Wreh-Wilson

    27 Feb 2015 | 7:21 pm
Remember Alterraun Verner? In 2010, the Tennessee Titans drafted the 5’10”, 187Ib Verner in the fourth round out of UCLA and he quickly showed himself as the surprise pick of the Titans' draft class. That year, Verner played in all 16 games and had 85 tackles, 16 assisted tackles and three interceptions.Verner would go on to play in all 16 games every year during his four years in Tennessee. He became a solid starter opposite Jason McCourty in 2013 after decisively winning the battle to start over Tommie Campbell with his play early in the season. Originally, the Titans had wanted…
  • Carolina Panthers Prospects Who Stood Out at the Combine

The 2015 NFL scouting combine finished last week and there were lots of players whose place on mock drafts and big boards changed after going through their workouts. But will the combine have affected the Carolina Panthers’ draft board? It is expected that Dave Gettleman will take an offensive tackle, a wide receiver and a defensive back in Chicago but which players have improved their draft stock?D.J. Humphries is one player who impressed in Indianapolis. The left tackle out of Florida excelled both on and off the field last Friday, so much so than NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said he…

Simply put adding Benard back would at least give the Cardinals depth and competition when training camp and preseason rolls around.Benard has been in the system for two seasons now and understands the schemes. He could probably be had for a decent price while they look at the draft and other free agents for the outside linebacker position. Why they must let him walk: They will probably spend free agency and draft picks on the position and allocation of…

Dockett was taken in the 3rd round by the Cardinals in the 2004 draft after he had been dubbed as a player with character issues.
